Planned Training Courses (Optional)

Three Training Courses are planned for ICCC-9 registrants on the following topics. Please indicate on the Registration Form if you wish to attend. Positions in the Training Courses will be limited, so early registration is recommended to avoid disappointment. Sponsorship of the Training Courses is being sought to assist participation of delegates from developing countries but cannot be guaranteed.


Cryopreservation and Storage of Microorganisms and Cell Cultures

Saturday 22 July and Sunday 23 July, 2000

The two-day Training Course will cover fundamental and applied aspects of cryopreservation of microorganisms. Lectures will also deal with important associated issues such as safety and stability in long term storage. Lectures, practical sessions and demonstrations will be used to give detailed guidance on appropriate methods for the preservation of a wide range of organisms.

The cost of the two-day workshop is A$ 150 (WFCC members and Affiliate Collections, ICCC-9 Sponsors), A$250 (Registrants from non-profit organisations), A$500 (Registrants from commercial organisations).

IATA Regulations for the Packaging and Transport of Infectious cultures by air.

This one-day Training Course will take the participants through the legal responsibilities for complying with the IATA Regulations (41st Edition effective Janaury 1st 2000). Participants will be able to classify the items they wish to send, pack and document the shipment as per the regulations. There will be a full range of packaging available so that the full labeling systems can be demonstrated and appropriate packaging can be identified for participants use. Course attendants will be required to demonstrate an understanding of the implications of the rules and regulations and will be issued with a competency certificate at the completion of the course.

Management and Operation of Culture Collections

Saturday 29 July and Sunday 30 July, 2000

This two-day Training Course will be taught by international experts in the field and the curriculum will cover culture collection management procedures, biosafety, culture preservation methods, record keeping and documentation, bioinformatic databases, culture collection catalogues, culture characterisation and quality control, identification methods, intellectual property, patent cultures.
