The World Federation for Culture Collections (WFCC) is very pleased to invite you to participate in the Ninth International Congress for Culture Collections (ICCC-9) to be held in Brisbane, Australia during July 23-28, 2000. Culture collections have an increasingly important role world-wide in the rapidly developing and exciting fields of biodiversity, biotechnology, genomics, and bioinformatics. Culture collections provide the common link between these fields and together provide the microbial, cellular and genetic resources which underpin biotechnology, and which support industry, science, research and education throughout the world. Culture collections comprise a global resource of biological cultures, bioinformatic databases, and taxonomic expertise which integrates all disciplines of biology engaged in cellular and genetic research, and its application in industry and biotechnology.
We invite you to participate in and contribute to ICCC-9. In the tradition of past Congresses we have created a programme which encourages scientific, social and cultural interaction in a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere. We invite you to contribute to the Congress by oral or poster presentations of scientific research or other issues related to culture collections to complement the plenary sessions on topical issues. We have also provided opportunities for exchange of ideas and experience through round table discussion sessions.
ICCC Congresses are held every four years and provide the best opportunity to receive up to date information on the scientific, managerial, and regulatory issues affecting culture collections and their users. Attendance is recommended for those working in or with culture collections, and for those using the facilities, services, and information resources provided by culture collections of microorganisms, cultured cells, and genetic resources.
